Zen Master Dae Kwang

Korean Zen Buddhism

Zen Master Dae Kwang hails from the USA and has been a monk since 1987. He was pursuing an academic career teaching at a university in the US when he met Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1978 and began practising with him. In 1990 he received inka, which is permission to teach, and in 1996 Zen Master Seung Sahn gave him Dharma transmission. He has served as the Head Abbot for the worldwide Kwan Um School of Zen and for the head temple Providence Zen Centre.

Currently based in Singapore as the resident Zen Master, he continues to be the guiding teacher for Zen centres in Wisconsin and Mexico. Zen Master Dae Kwang travels widely to teach Zen and leads retreats throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, as well as South Korea. His interests include meditation practices common to Christians and Buddhists.
